Beyond The Sands Of Time: 2011 Kuala Lumpur Kalachakra for World Peace

PROGRAM DETAILS:

Commentary on Lama Atisha’s Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment
6th - 7th September (Tuesday & Wednesday)
7.30pm - 9.30pm

Olympic Sports Hotel
Lama Atisha's most celebrated text, entitled Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, sets forth the entire Buddhist path within the framework of three levels of motivation on the part of the practitioner. Lama Atisha's text thus became the source of the Lam Rim tradition, or graduated stages of the path to enlightenment, an approach to spiritual practice incorporated within all schools of Tibetan Buddhism and in particular within the Gelug lineage. His Eminence Choden Rinpoche, himself an accomplished Tibetan master in both sutra and tantra will provide both students and practitioners a glimpse of the entire path as outlined by Lama Atisha. This commentary is open to the public and does not require prior registration.

Kalachakra Empowerment
10th - 11th September (Saturday & Sunday)
2.30pm - 5.30pm

Chin Woo Stadium

The public is welcome to attend this rare Kalachakra Empowerment as just a BLESSING!

The Kalachakra Tantra is a tantric practice of the Highest Yoga Tantra (HYT) tradition and share many aspects of its tenets with other HYT practices but also differs in that while other HYT practices are given in more discretionary manner, the Kalachakra practice can be conferred to the masses by a qualified tantric master of pure lineage. The practice of tantra in its very essence is a meditational practice about transforming the ordinary mundane activities into the extraordinary as a means to accumulate merits and purifying negativities, the ultimate aim of which is to gain the Buddha nature or enlightened mind of the Buddha in the quickest means possible and to benefit as many beings as possible.

Kala means time and chakra refers to wheels or cycles, so collectively it literally means the cycle of time. On a broad level, Kalachakra refers to the outer, inner and alternative cycles that affect the universe: the outer Kalachakra refers to the physical world – the birth and death of our solar system and universes, the inner Kalachakra concerns the processes of human gestation and birth rhyming the rhythm of our biological clock; the alternative Kalachakra is the spiritual path to achieve the Buddha nature and omniscience of the all knowing and enlightened mind that is latent in all sentient beings. The great empowerment ceremony of Kalachakra tantra gives the opportunity for people of all faiths to gather in a peaceful atmosphere to listen to teachings on love and compassion and to re-affirm their commitments to upholding the pure ethics of their traditions.  Mounting over this harmonious sharing of positive energy, world peace is propagated as just it is for this event has aimed.

Graciously, His Eminence Choden Rinpoche presides over this ceremony, as the glorious Kalachakra deity, will confer the empowerment and blessings to the public.  All members of the public are free to participate in this ceremony.
The general public who attends this ceremony as receiving it as a blessing must receive the Refuge vow with Rinpoche giving in the ceremony.  During the empowerment process, the individual should not visualize himself or herself as the deity, but rather visualize the deity above one’s crown.
For those attending this ceremony by taking the empowerment with the intent to enter into the mandala of the Kalachakra to deepen one's spiritual path, the individual must be prepared to take up and honor the Bodhisattva and Tantric vows as well as the Refuge vow and importantly to regard Rinpoche as one’s Guru, in addition to committing oneself to recitation of the Kalachakra mantra 7 times daily for life as their life long commitment.
As the Vajramaster for the Empowerment, Rinpoche may revise the stated commitment according to the disposition of the students at the time of the Empowerment.
